How-Stay-Cool-Work

According to World Meteorological Organization (WMO), 2013 was the sixth hottest year in their record. This paints a picture of long term warming. In fact, the WMO said that the continuing rise of greenhouse gases that causes global warming will remain in the future. This is alarming.

When everything is warm, it is indeed alarming. But you can always keep your cool during warm days and avoid heat-related disorders. Here are some tips on staying cool during warm days:

  • Staying out – The first thing that you should consider is stay out of the sun’s way from 10am to 4pm. If you have activities like walking or exercising, make sure that you do not do it from 10am to 4pm or suffer its consequences.
  • Dress comfortably – Do not wear thick clothing when the heat is scourging. You should wear comfortable dress and footwear so your body will not be distressed. Wear loose and light coloured shirts. Choose cotton clothing because they are more comfortable compared to synthetic ones.
  • Use your umbrella – If you cannot stay out of the sun from 10am to 4pm because you have business to attend, you should bring your umbrella or at least wear a cap together with your sunglasses. These things can protect you from the sun.
  • Hydrate – The important thing here is to stay hydrated at all times. Water is the best way to cool up when it is hot. If you feel thirsty, do not hesitate to drink lots of water. It is okay to consider Gatorade but water will do fine. Energy drinks should only be considered if you lost a lot of electrolytes.

You should think beyond cooling yourself though. Global warming is a phenomenon and everyone should do their part in reducing the emission of greenhouse gases. For instance you can plant more trees. It does not stop there, you can also use public transport or join carpools to lessen the emission of carbons. Oh, you can even limit the use of your air conditioning system.
